A free desktop app for Windows and Mac that creates a focused quiz environment by blocking outside websites, apps, and AI tools. You decide whether your child has an AI Tutor during each quiz.
Start Your Free 14-Day TrialHome testing has changed. Modern technology has made it easier than ever to find polished answers, copy information, or use AI to complete work. When every answer is just a few clicks away, it becomes difficult to know whether a quiz measures understanding or access to technology.
Understandly's Lockdown Brwoser creates a focused testing environment so quiz results reflect what students know, not what they can search.
When you enable Lockdown Browser for a quiz, students open it in the Understandly desktop app instead of a web browser. Once the quiz begins, access to the rest of the computer is restricted until the quiz is submitted.
The quiz takes over the screen and stays there. There is no minimizing or peeking at another window.
Other browsers, applications, and tabs can't be accessed while the quiz is in progress.
Quiz questions can't be copied into AI tools or search engines, and outside answers can't be pasted into the quiz.
Closing the Lockdown Browser automatically submits the quiz, preventing students from leaving and returning later.
Lockdown Browser is a free desktop app for Windows and Mac that is included with your Understandly account. The first time a student starts a locked quiz, they'll br prompted to install it. After that, locked quizzes launch automatically.
Locking out the internet doesn't have to mean locking out help. For every quiz, you choose whether an AI Tutor is available inside the lockdown environment.
The tutor guides students with questions and hints, never quiz answers. Choose an independent quiz whenever you want a traditional closed-book experience.
Students complete the quiz without AI help in a traditional closed-book environment.
Curriculum-based questions and hints are available inside the locked environment.
We'll be straight with you about what this is — and what it isn't.
Kids today will use AI their whole lives. The goal isn't to pretend it doesn't exist, it's to teach them to do honest work alongside it. That's what this tool is for.
